In the midst of Autumn we caught up with Stace & Suzie Martin, who are embarking on their motorcycle adventure across the world.
Tell us a little about yourself?
We are a married couple (got married this year in April!). We are on a world trip on a BMW touring bike.
How and when did you get into riding?
Stace, my husband has ridden for many years and the bikes for 13 years from new.
I had never ridden in my life and only when I started dating Stace did I tart to enjoy as Pillion, I have not learnt to ride as yet but who knows, it might happen!
What are the best and worst things about riding?
The best things from my perspective on this trip so far is being able to have such an amazing spot to view the scenery around me as we are travelling.
From Stace’s perspective, is not always being to be able to enjoy the views as much as concentrating on riding on the bike! But we can always stop so both get to enjoy and we have a i360 camera that can film as we along and it’s getting some amazing footage!
I'm learning the cold is not much fun either! We had on every layer yesterday, as currently in Texas, and it dropped below 0!
Tell us about your most memorable ride to date?
I think the most memorable on this trip so far has to be Yosemite Park, it blew us away and scenery is amazing! We also had a fantastic time in Golden in Colorado and going over the pass just before we got into Golden with some of the snow topped Rockies has been incredible! We loved the ride back down from Lookout Mountain in Golden with lots of hair pin turns.
What's the best piece of riding advice you've ever been given?
I asked Stace for the best piece of advice and he said - rubber side down and don't ride at night! But also ride within your abilities and don't try and keep up with others.
How do you keep your bikes secure at home and on the go? Share your best tips to help others keep their bikes safe.
We always use a disc lock and where possible chain it to a fixed object hence why we decided to carry 2 Litelok Core Motos with us as it gives us the flexibility to lock both wheels or link them together to lock the bike to fixed object.
When someone asks what kit you recommend, you say?
When someone asks about which kit I recommend so far it has to be my Klim outfit - the trousers and jacket have been epic on this trip so far and appreciate it's only a month in, but loving how it keeps me cool in the hot and warm in the cold!
Lots of ventilation pockets and lots of great pockets too - it's really proving to be worth every penny! I love it and it looks good too.
Stace said his Altberg boots are amazing and has had for 13 years. They are so comfortable on and off the bike, although they may not afford him the protection as a ridged motorcross boot. They are still fabulous for all weather.
Also recently purchased, and new favourite are his made to measure BKS trousers.
What's on your riding bucket list?
The bucket list is to ride the bike at least once around the world, which we are currently doing.
